What NSIC Registration is, and who it applies to
SPRS registration is specifically for micro and small enterprises — medium enterprises are not eligible. It is designed to lower the barriers that keep small suppliers out of government procurement, where the cost of tender documents and earnest money deposits can be prohibitive relative to contract value.
The benefits are concrete. Tender sets are issued free of cost. Earnest money deposit is waived entirely. Under the Public Procurement Policy, a proportion of annual government procurement is reserved for micro and small enterprises, with a sub-quota for units owned by SC/ST and women entrepreneurs.
Registration involves a technical inspection of your premises by an NSIC-empanelled agency, which assesses your manufacturing or service capability and recommends a monetary limit — the maximum contract value you are certified to handle. That limit matters, because it determines which tenders you can bid on.
The certificate is generally valid for two years and requires renewal, with a fresh capability assessment. Units that have been operating for less than a year can apply under a provisional registration route with a lower monetary ceiling.
Who needs NSIC Registration
- Micro and small enterprises bidding for government contracts
- Manufacturers supplying goods to government departments and PSUs
- Service providers to government bodies
- Units owned by SC/ST or women entrepreneurs seeking sub-quota benefits
- MSMEs wanting EMD exemption on tenders
- Businesses already on GeM wanting stronger tender credentials
Why it matters
Free tender documents
Tender sets are issued at no cost, which adds up quickly for a business bidding regularly.
EMD exemption
Complete exemption from earnest money deposits, freeing working capital that would otherwise be locked up.
Reserved procurement
A defined share of government purchasing is reserved for micro and small enterprises under the Public Procurement Policy.
Verified capability
The technical inspection produces an independent assessment of your capacity, which carries weight with buyers.

What it costs
We do not publish a rate card, because the right fee depends on your entity type, turnover and how much of the groundwork is already done. Tell us what your business does and we will quote a fixed figure for your case — before you commit to anything.
We quote a fixed professional fee for your case before any work begins, and it excludes GST. Government fees, where applicable, are shown separately and paid directly to the department. Statutory fees and thresholds change by notification — we confirm the current position for your case before you commit.
NSIC Registration — frequently asked questions
Who is eligible for NSIC registration?
Only micro and small enterprises with a valid Udyam registration. Medium enterprises are not eligible under the Single Point Registration Scheme. Traders are generally excluded — the scheme targets manufacturers and service providers.
What is the monetary limit and why does it matter?
It is the maximum value of a single order you are certified as capable of executing, set by NSIC based on the technical inspection and your financials. It matters because it caps which tenders you can bid for. Preparing properly for the inspection genuinely affects the limit you are granted.
How long is the certificate valid?
Two years, after which renewal with a fresh capability assessment is required. Units operating for less than a year can obtain provisional registration with a lower monetary ceiling, valid for one year.
Is NSIC registration the same as GeM registration?
No, they are different and complementary. GeM is the marketplace where you list products and bid. NSIC SPRS is a credential that gives you EMD exemption and free tender documents across government procurement generally. Many suppliers hold both.
Can a service provider register, or is it only for manufacturers?
Service providers are eligible. The technical inspection is adapted to assess service delivery capability rather than plant and machinery, but the process and benefits are broadly the same.
