Income Tax Return Filing

Filed accurately, claimed fully, on time.

An income tax return is the document that proves your income — to a bank sanctioning a loan, an embassy assessing a visa, or the department itself. We pick the correct ITR form, compare the old and new regimes against your actual numbers, claim every deduction you are entitled to, and file before the deadline.

What ITR Filing is, and who it applies to

Filing is mandatory if your gross total income exceeds the basic exemption limit, and in several situations regardless of income — if you deposited over ₹1 crore in a current account, spent more than ₹2 lakh on foreign travel, paid over ₹1 lakh in electricity bills, or hold any foreign asset or signing authority over a foreign account.

Choosing the right form matters more than most people expect. ITR-1 suits salaried individuals with income up to ₹50 lakh and one house property. Capital gains push you to ITR-2. Business or professional income needs ITR-3, or ITR-4 if you are opting for presumptive taxation under sections 44AD, 44ADA or 44AE. Filing the wrong form gets the return treated as defective, and the clock starts again.

The new tax regime is now the default. It has lower slab rates but removes most deductions, so whether it beats the old regime depends entirely on your actual investments, home loan interest and HRA. We run both calculations on your real numbers rather than applying a rule of thumb — the difference is routinely tens of thousands of rupees.

Missing the deadline costs a fee of up to ₹5,000 under section 234F, interest under sections 234A, 234B and 234C, and — more painfully — the loss of the right to carry forward business and capital losses to future years. That last one is the expensive part and it cannot be recovered.

Who needs ITR Filing

  • Salaried individuals with income above the basic exemption limit
  • Freelancers, consultants and professionals
  • Business owners, proprietors and partners
  • Anyone with capital gains from shares, mutual funds or property
  • Landlords with rental income
  • NRIs with income arising in India
  • Anyone seeking a refund of excess TDS deducted
  • Applicants needing ITR copies for a visa, home loan or tender

Why it matters

Both regimes compared

We compute your liability under the old and new regimes side by side and file under whichever leaves you better off.

Every deduction claimed

80C, 80D, 80G, HRA, home loan interest, education loan, NPS — checked against your documents rather than assumed.

Faster refunds

Correct bank pre-validation and clean AIS reconciliation are what actually get refunds processed quickly.

Notice-resistant filing

We match your return against Form 26AS and the AIS before filing, which is where most mismatch notices originate.

Documents required

Scans on WhatsApp are fine. We check every document against the officer's checklist before filing.

Salaried individuals

  • Form 16 from every employer during the year
  • PAN and Aadhaar
  • Bank account number and IFSC for the refund
  • Form 26AS and AIS download
  • Investment proofs — 80C, 80D, NPS
  • Home loan interest certificate, if applicable
  • Rent receipts and landlord PAN for HRA

Business and professional income

  • Profit and loss account and balance sheet
  • Bank statements for the full financial year
  • GST returns filed during the year
  • Details of fixed assets and depreciation
  • TDS certificates in Form 16A
  • Loan statements and interest certificates

Capital gains

  • Broker statement or capital gains report for shares and mutual funds
  • Sale and purchase deeds for property
  • Proof of improvement costs and transfer expenses
  • Details of any reinvestment under sections 54, 54EC or 54F

How we do it

  1. 1

    Send your documents

Form 16, bank statements and investment proofs. If you are unsure what applies, we send you a short checklist for your situation.

  2. 2

    AIS and 26AS reconciliation

We pull your annual information statement and match every reported transaction, so nothing surfaces later as a mismatch notice.

  3. 3

    Regime comparison

Both tax regimes computed on your actual figures, with the difference shown to you in rupees.

  4. 4

    Your review

You get the computation sheet before filing. Nothing is submitted until you approve it.

  5. 5

    File and e-verify

We file the return and guide you through e-verification, which must be completed within 30 days for the return to be valid.

What it costs

We do not publish a rate card, because the right fee depends on your entity type, turnover and how much of the groundwork is already done. Tell us what your business does and we will quote a fixed figure for your case — before you commit to anything.

We quote a fixed professional fee for your case before any work begins, and it excludes GST. Government fees, where applicable, are shown separately and paid directly to the department. Statutory fees and thresholds change by notification — we confirm the current position for your case before you commit.

What non-compliance costs

  • Late filing fee up to ₹5,000 under section 234F (₹1,000 where total income is below ₹5 lakh)
  • Interest under sections 234A, 234B and 234C on unpaid tax
  • Business and capital losses cannot be carried forward if the return is late
  • Refunds are delayed, and prosecution is possible in serious cases of non-filing

ITR Filing — frequently asked questions

What is the due date for filing my ITR?

For individuals and businesses not requiring audit, the due date is 31 July following the financial year. Where a tax audit applies, it is 31 October, and 30 November for cases involving transfer pricing reports. A belated or revised return can generally be filed up to 31 December. Dates are sometimes extended by notification.

Which tax regime should I choose?

There is no universal answer, which is why we compute both. Broadly, the new regime tends to win if you have few deductions, while the old regime usually wins once you have substantial 80C investments, HRA and home loan interest. Salaried taxpayers can switch each year; those with business income face restrictions on switching back.

I missed the deadline. Can I still file?

Yes. A belated return can be filed until 31 December of the assessment year with a late fee. Beyond that, an updated return under section 139(8A) can be filed for several years after the relevant year, but it requires paying additional tax on top and cannot be used to claim a refund or increase a loss.

How long does a refund take?

Most refunds are processed within two to six weeks of e-verification, provided your bank account is pre-validated and there is no mismatch with Form 26AS or the AIS. Delays almost always trace back to one of those two things.

Do I need to file if my employer already deducted TDS?

Usually yes. TDS is tax collected in advance, not a substitute for filing. You may well be owed a refund, and if your income exceeds the exemption limit the return is mandatory regardless of how much TDS was deducted.

Can you file returns for previous years I missed?

In many cases yes, through the updated return route under section 139(8A). There are conditions — you cannot use it to claim a refund or to report a loss — and additional tax is payable. Send us the years in question and we will tell you exactly what is possible.

Do you file returns for NRIs?

Yes. NRI returns involve residential status determination, DTAA relief where a treaty applies, and reporting of Indian-source income such as rent, capital gains and interest. It is specialised work and we handle it regularly.
